42nd International Symposium on Robotics

42nd International Symposium on Robotics

The International Symposium on Robotics (ISR) is the world's leading annual robotics conference. Sponsored by the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), the ISR is now entering its 42nd year.

One of the special characteristics of the ISR is that it travels to all parts of the world. Recent ISR's have been held in Korea, Spain and Germany. Folllowing the 42nd ISR in the US, it will be held in Taiwan in 2012. Each ISR brings new global insights on the latest in robotics applications and research.

The ISR has not been held in the US since 2007. In 2011 the ISR will be fully integrated into the Automate 2011 Conference. In otherwords, there will be no separate track just for ISR attendees -- it will be treated as one conference, allowing ISR participants to learn not only about the latest in robotics but also the newest developments in machine vision, motion control and other technologies covered at Automate.

Each year the Engelberger Robotics Awards, the industry's highest honor, are presented at the ISR. In 2011 a Gala Dinner honoring the newest class of Engelberger Award winners will be held on Tuesday, March 22 at the beautiful Intercontiental Hotel on Chicago's Magnificient Mile. This will be a special evening - the Automate sponsors are hoping that Joe Engelberger, the "father of robotics" for whom the awards are named, may be able to attend for the first time since 207. Now in his 80s, Mr. Engelberger no longer travels as much, but it would be a special evening, indeed, for everyone involved in robotics to have him with us. We're keeping our fingers crossed!
