Not Just Any Robot Can Order a Scone – But Anybot Can
As you will see at Automate 2011, Anybots can wheel out and about to help you be in two places at once or they can run an errand to get you a scone. But will the counter person at the coffee shop know what to do? They did at Red Rock Coffee and got a nice tip for their trouble when one of Anybots engineers sent his two-wheeled robot on a mile long mission to feed a craving.
Long story short, a five dollar bill was tucked into a headband around Anybots noggin and a bag tied around its little neck to carry back the scone. Since a real person is driving and talking, the transaction was otherwise quite typical for the customer and the store. People who attend Automate 2011 will see this remarkable technology first-hand.
A more colorful description of the coffee shop escapade can be found on Anyblog (http://anybots.posterous.com/). Anybots, Adept MobileRobots and other leading edge technology will call Automate 2011 home for a few days in March. Be sure to visit the Emerging Robotics Pavilion for all the fun!
Anybots has Special Appeal for Design News and Robot Industry Veterans
Design News digs into Anybots in a February 8 article, “The Dawning of the Office
Robot.” What inspired Michael Clark of CMU’s Institute of Software Research to develop a two-wheeled, Segway-type robot? What hurdles did he overcome to design a telepresence device that can mingle and work with people? Where are they now in their business cycle?
One place they are is at the Emerging Robotics Pavilion at Automate 2011, March 21-24, in Chicago, Illinois at McCormick Place. You can be there free with a Show pass and see it for yourself. Find out how this $15,000 personal avatar can put you in meetings around the world even when you can’t travel. Let Design News give you their take on this next generation robot.
Heard at the Robotics Industry Forum
A note from Brian Huse, Director, Marketing & PR, RIA
During lunch at RIA’s Robotics Industry Forum (January 19-21, Orlando, Florida) I sat with someone from Willow Garage and from
Motoman who had a little chat that touched on Anybots. Both saw potential for this robot, including as a way to get to meetings overseas without the fuss and muss of travel.
